Sheera (she-rah)

Sheera is a common breakfast meal, but it can also be eaten as a snack during the day. The best way I can describe it to you is that it is a sweeter, drier version of grits. As someone who isn’t a big fan of grits or oatmeal, I hope you can see this as a possible substitute. One major plus of sheera is that it doesn’t take long at all to cook.

Prep Time – 10 minutes

Cook Time – 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Semolina (rava) – 1 cup
  • Pure ghee – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Raisins – 1 cup
  • Almonds – 1 cup
  • Saffron strands – 1/2 grams
  • Cardamom powder – 10 grams

Instructions:

  1. Fry the semolina with the ghee on medium flame in a pan until the mixture turns reddish.
  2. Boil milk and water and then add to the semolina.
  3. Stir the mixture continuously; when it solidifies halfway, add sugar and the saffron.
  4. Place a lid on the pan and let it cook for two to three minutes on low flame.
  5. Remove the sheera from the pan and add elaichi powder.
  6. Sprinkle raisins and almonds on the sheera and serve.
